5 straight finals! What an accomplishment for Lebron James to get his teams to the Finals 5 straight years with two different teams. That is very commendable! Never mind the fact that he only has 2 Finals wins so far, just getting to the Finals is very hard to accomplish, especially back to back to back to back to back. Just think about this for a second, when he left the Cleveland Cavs for the Miami Heat, they went back to being bottom feeders of the East, were in the draft lottery every year, and got two #1 draft picks because they stunk. Then when he left Miami this past year, they did not even make the playoffs!!? I don’t care that Chris Bosh was hurt, that team with Lebron is in the finals (with Bosh hurt), without him, they miss the playoffs…Lebron’s impact is WOW!
I mean the Cavs went from the worst in the East to the Finals in one year with Lebron, despite Kevin Love not being much of an impact. If you know me, you know I’m not much of a Lebron fan, however, I respect the hell out of his game. If you are a basketball fan, you have to love his game! The dude just does it all, is a physical specimen, and makes his entire team better. I don’t know any other athlete in recent history (besides maybe Deion Sanders) who turns a team into a for sure title contender IMMEDIATELY upon his arrival like Lebron does. Also, I don’t know another superstar who has gone from being the move loved, to the most hated, back to the most loved athlete on earth based on decisions that benefitted him.
Granted, I didn’t like the fact that Lebron decided to go to Miami to team up with D-Wade and Bosh like any other basketball fan (especially CLEVELAND), but it was a good move for him because finally won a title and found out what it takes to win. Now he is trying to mend relationships and have a storybook ending for the city of Cleveland and his career, and this dude is really living in the moment. As much as I hate to admit it, this dude is the face of the NBA right now, and he loves every second of it. With the media, he tries to give the perfect answer every time he talks, going in depth with every answer. Most players get short after a while because they are getting the same questions. To me, it just looks like he is more confident than ever in everything he does, like he can’t do wrong, and he is speaking more confident. And that my friends is scary for the rest of the NBA.
Stats aside, his impact is huge anytime he takes the floor. He basically coaches the Cavs right now. And now that he is facing the red-hot Golden State Warriors and Steph Curry, he has a huge challenge ahead of him to bring the thing the city of Cleveland has been dying for, a NBA title. To be honest, I think Curry and the Warriors are going to be too much for the Cavs, because of their style of play and great defensive pressure. This feels more like Steph Curry’s year than anyone else and I picked the Western Conference to win the Finals anyway, but I can’t count out Lebron. Despite Kyrie being hurt most of the playoffs and Kevin Love out, Lebron is carrying the Cavs and making former Knicks (ooo this hurts my soul) JR Smith and Iman Shumpert look like part of a Big Three.
Lebron has figured out how to get to the Finals enough times, but can he do enough to win more titles?? I’m sure Phirst Contention will be talking about the finals ad nauseam in the upcoming days so stay tuned to our predictions. But for now, respect what Lebron has done, and continues to do. You don’t have to be a fan of his to respect his game is all I am getting at folks (despite this article, I’m not a huge Lebron fan, trust me). NO he is not Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson, and he will never be, but that’s ok. Let the man just be Lebron James, because honestly the NBA has never seen an athlete like him.
